On The Arizona Road

Posted by AngieSteveson on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The past two weekends I have been fortunate to conduct workshops not far from home. I packed up my car with quilts and all the workshop supplies and hit the road. I visited Tucson and then to Flagstaff the following weekend.

The first weekend I visited The Quilt Basket/Sewing Room in Tucson, Arizona.  I always enjoy visiting my friend Lena’s store. Friday night started off with a Trunk Show. I presented to a wonderful group of quilters all of the Lunch Box Quilts samples and all the stories that go with each quilt. Everyone left with plenty of inspiration for their new quilt projects.

On Saturday was the workshop. The workshop was held in the empty store next to The Quilt Basket/Sewing Room. The students and I were so fortunate to be able to have all the wonderful sewing space the empty store provided. The theme for the day seemed to be birds and leaves. Most of the students worked on Fancy Feathers or Autumn Wind. Everyone was working with such passion I hardly saw them take a break for lunch.

Donna was the lucky winner of the Havel’s scissors.

The following weekend I headed north to Odegaard’s Sewing Center in Flagstaff, Arizona. The drive and weather were just beautiful. I arrived over an hour before class only to find students were already there before me. I thought maybe I had the workshop start time wrong. Later I found out that many had driven to attend class from, Snowflake, Winslow, Prescott, Sedona, and Strawberry. Like me, they wanted to allow an ample amount of time for the drive to Flagstaff. We did have a few local gals from Flagstaff.

The workshop was another success for all the students. They worked hard mastering embroidery machine appliqué and completed many appliqué blocks. Boots and Bandanas, About Trout and Scoop It Up! were the popular patterns that day. Everyone talked of winning the Havel’s scissors all day.

Barbara ended up being the lucky winner that day.

This completes the 2011 workshop schedule. I will be traveling again in 2012.  Stores are busy working on their class schedules for next year. I am currently booked for a Trunk Show and Workshop, March 30 and 31, 2012 at the Bernina Store in Overland Park, Kansas.

Check the Calendar for a Workshop or Trunkshow in your area.
